Chilli dog is the ultimate comfort or game day food. Start with a juicy hot dog in a soft bun, then pile on some hearty chilli. It's messy, delicious, and perfect for a meal with your mates.
Ingredients
- 1 brown onion, diced
- 5 cloves garlic, finely diced
- 2 tbsp oil
- 500g (1 lb 2 oz) beef mince
- salt and pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 10 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato puree
- 300ml (10 fl oz) chicken stock
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 hot dogs
Directions
To make the chilli, start by placing a frying pan over medium-high heat and adding the oil. Once the oil is hot, add the onions with a pinch of salt and sauté for 1 minute before adding the garlic. Continue to sauté for 1 more minute before adding the beef.
- Using the back of a wooden spoon, break the beef up, then season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Add the tomato puree and stir through.
- Add the chicken stock, mix well, and simmer on low heat for 1-3 hours.
- Once your chilli is ready, you can either boil or grill your hot dogs for 5 minutes. In the last minute, steam your buns.
- To assemble, place the hot dog in the steamed bun, followed by a generous amount of chilli on top. Optionally, you can also add some grated cheese or diced white onion. Enjoy!
