I was listening to Action Bronson and there's a line in a song that goes 'burning cheese, saganaki' and it made me crave a good saganaki. So I went home and made saganaki with roasted figs.
Ingredients
- 4 figs, cut in half
- 2 tbsp honey
- 350g cheese (I used Buffalo Milk Halloumi, but Graviera, Kefalograviera, and Kefalotyri are more traditional) (approx. 12 oz)
- 200g flour (approx. 7 oz or 1.5 cup)
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- lemon wedges, to serve
- mint leaves, to garnish
Directions
Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). Place the fig halves onto an oven tray and drizzle with honey. Roast for 10 minutes.
- Cut the cheese into slices approximately 20mm (about 0.8 inches) thick and lightly dust them with flour.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the cheese slices on both sides until golden brown.
- To serve, arrange the fried cheese and roasted figs on a plate. Garnish with fresh lemon wedges and mint leaves.
- Enjoy while warm!
